7th July It Rains in the UK

We arrived at Geoff’s Mum’s late Sunday night with 4 suitcases, 3 rucksacks and the base guitar! All of which we managed to fit in a Vauxhall Meriva. We don’t plan to take that much back with us just 3 cases and 3 rucksacks but with the political climate in Egypt being uncertain and knowing that we are returning to the UK next year we thought it might be wise to start bringing things back.

On Monday we breakfasted on bacon sandwiches then spent the day with Ivy and Bob before heading North to check in with my family. (there was rain)

So on Tuesday we went to Leeds and saw Mum and Dad, lunch at the Harvester and then a trip round Matalan clothes shopping followed by traditional Wood fare – soup, sandwich and cake, for our tea. (It rained)

Wednesday was Hull. We popped into the DVLA office in Beverley to sort out my driving licence, the photo card needed updating and I changed the address to Geoff’s mum’s. Then at 10 am we meet Alison in Hull at McDonalds, I wandered round the shops with her and Maddison for a bit and then left them too it so Geoff and I could go see the estate agent about the tenant’s offer for the house. Everything seemed reasonable there so we accepted and started the sale process next thing to do is fill in the solicitors information.  We were going to see Steve but he was so busy we have booked an appointment on August 14th at 10 am just to say hi! On the way back to the Travel lodge at Colton where we were staying we popped into the Outlet park at Castleford just to look.(It rained)

Thursday we went to York, first to Elvington air museum, where they were hosting The Big Bang, a science and technology fair for schools in Yorkshire. The place was full of school children but we managed to see the planes and take a few pictures. From here we went to the York designer outlet and a fish and chip lunch followed by a bus ride into york and the traditional trip to Clifford's Tower where we joined English Heritage. Back to the travel lodge for a rest and then onto IKEA for a look round. Yippee, I love Ikea, the only fly in the ointment was we got there too late to have tea (Swedish meatballs)  in the restaurant, so it was sandwiches from Sainsbury’s. (There was torrential rain on the way to Ikea)

Friday we headed to Mum’s to meet up with Jane. We got there to find she couldn’t make it due to flooding. After all the rain there were amber flood alerts across the country so we left early (after soup and a sandwich) to drive down the M1 back to Hatfield. Fortunately it only rained most of the way, no torrential rain where you can’t see 10m in front of you.

Saturday we went to Stanborough Park for an event called Kaleidoscope (I forgot to put the memory card in the camera) which had fewer craft stalls than I would like. We managed to avoid the rain by being there in-between the showers.

  1. Looks like you're having a good holiday - have you had any rain whilst in the UK? :)
