3rd August–What was left to see?

Our second full day in Paris and there was still lots to see. Last night Geoff and I added the location of Starbucks to our map in order to keep Maddison going, after yesterdays chorus of complaints she needed something! Everybody made it down to breakfast and then it was on board the metro to find the Eiffel tower.

Lots of pictures here but we decided not to queue and travel to the top instead we made our way to the first Frappuccino for Maddy and Geoff. After a sit down and a bit of a rest we continued on our travels to ‘Les Invalides museum’ that houses the French Army museum and Napoleon’s tomb. Suits of armour, cannons, the tomb where Napoleon’s body is since they dug it up and brought it from St. Helena and lots of exhibitions of the history of the French Army.

Lunch was bread and cheese and samosas in the park before we hit the road again to find the Arc de Triomphe. There was supposed to be another Starbucks nearby  but we didn’t spot it – we did see Cartier but Geoff didn’t buy me anything!

The last port of call was the Statue of Liberty, there are 2 in Paris. The one we set off to find is located on a narrow strip of land in the middle of the Seine and I was disappointed to find it had it’s back to me. The bridge next to it was not the one used in the Davinci Code, so many film myths are being destroyed this holiday. As we left the heavens opened so we sheltered under one of the many shop awnings before heading back to the hotel. Later we went out and sat in a street cafe for dinner – it wasn’t  a very romantic location but the food was excellent.

I do have one small niggle – the lens hood is putting curved black corners into some of my pictures!
